Today we are going to be looking into the growth of Microsoft and how it rose to beone ofthe most popular PC operating system software to its where it lies todayTo understand how Microsoft become the behemoth it is today, we need to go back to the time it wasfounded. Here we will get a glimpse of nuggets of wisdom from Microsoft founders – Bill Gates and PaulAllen.Microsoft was founded on April 4, 1975. It was originally headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexicobut later moved to Washington State. When Gates and Allen founded Microsoft it was originally knownas Micro-Soft and dealt with microprocessors and software. Microsoft breakthrough came in 1981 whenit licensed IBM to start using their MS-DOS software for their PCs. The program operated through aseries of commands and lacked a solid graphical interface. At this time IBM made the erroneousconclusion that the future world of computers would be in hardware. So, when they approachedMicrosoft for an exclusive license agreement to their OS –MS-DOS – Microsoft declined and this set thebar for Microsoft as a successful software vendor. Microsoft bought the MS-DOS codefrom Seattlecomputer products for a reported $925,000 in 1986. Later in 1983, Allen left Microsoft after beingdiagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
